“What books do you read?” This question caught me a bit by surprise during my talk on how I found direction and purpose during the Corona crisis. I said, truthfully, that I spend a lot of time reading, but don’t spend much reading books. It turns out there is physiological reason for that.
The reason is Dopamine and it plays a huge role in driving behavior. This weekend I stumbled on a video explains that explain why some things (like surfing) you can do for hours, and others, it’s hard to stay focused for more than half an hour.
This weekend’s experiment: Dopamine detox. Can I go half a day (or better, a whole day) without my phone?
