13-07-2023If your Daily Scrums seem like a waste of time, apply these easy fixes to raise your Scrums to a new level!
The purpose of the Daily Scrum is for the Developers to organize themselves for the day and identify the need to communicate with each other. Too many attendees may mean that your team is too big, which is associated with poor team performance. If the event is too long, it may have been turned into a status meeting.
If the Developers are not holding a Daily Scrum, and have not replaced it with something equivalent (e.g. mobbing), then self-organization is probably not happening.
Possible Improvements
Keep the team under 10 people. Use a talking stick. Scrum Master, step back and let your team organize themselves. Discuss substance, not meta-data. Consider alternatives to the three questions. Time-box individual discussions and continue important conversations after the Daily Scrum in smaller groups.
